How to Use UTM Links Well
Paste the page you want people to land on, pick a preset or type a source and medium, then give the campaign a short name. Copy the link and use it in the ad, email or post. When people click it, GA4 records the tags with the visit.
The source answers "who sent the visitor?" (google, facebook, newsletter). The medium answers "what kind of channel?" (cpc, paid_social, email). The campaign groups every link for one promotion. Use utm_content to tell two ads or two buttons in the same email apart, and utm_term for paid keywords.
Write the naming rules down once and share them with everyone who makes links. Keep values lowercase, use underscores instead of spaces, and reuse the same source and medium names. GA4 sorts traffic into channels like Paid Social or Email partly from the medium, so a typo such as "E-mail" can land visits in "Unassigned". Only tag links that point to your site from outside; never tag links between your own pages.
